On this exact day three years ago, during a stint in Italy, I took a little trip to this Tuscan estate with some friends from Florence. It was, and still is, one of my favorite days ever: getting lost in the beautiful countryside on the way to Montalcino, touring a medieval fortress filled with wine, and, after tasting far more of it than I care to admit, slow dancing in the middle of the vineyard and attempting to drive Adriano’s Alfa Romeo to Siena, where we slept on the floor of his distant cousin’s appartamento. (Who else can say they attempted to learn to drive stick in the hills of Tuscany in the car of a beautiful, curly-haired Fiorentino after way too many glasses of Chianti?)
Anyway, my new roommate — courtesy of Craigslist — moved in this weekend; tonight, I suggested bonding over some wine.
“Sure,” she said, “I actually have a few bottles that I brought with me.” She walked into the kitchen and pulled out a bottle from one of her boxes.
“Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva. Have you ever had this?”
